Ireland finished fourth in the women's 4x400m final in the Olympics.

They knocked almost 3 seconds off the national record in finishing in a time 3 minutes 19.90 seconds.

Team Ireland finished 0.18 of a second off Great Britain in third with USA taking the gold and Netherlands in second.

Soccer

The game will go straight to penalties if it's level after 90 minutes.

 

Rugby

The Women's Interpro Series kicks off this afternoon.

Kathryn Dane returns to play following a near-two-year absence to captain Ulster in their trip to Munster.

That game gets underway at half 2.

That's followed by the meeting of Leinster and Connacht at Energia Park from quarter to 5.

South Africa made the perfect start to their Rugby Championship campaign.

The World Champions were 33-7 winners over Joe Schmidt's Australia in Brisbane.

Argentina stunned holders New Zealand with a 38-30 win in Wellington.

 

Racing

The Group-1 Phoenix Stakes is the feature of an eight-race card at The Curragh on Saturday afternoon.

The big race is off at 25-to-5, with the card itself underway at 1:45pm.
