Lennon takes on new challenge with Wexford

Athlone native Adam Lennon has returned to the League of Ireland scene after recently signing for Wexford FC.

Lennon is a former Athlone Town player, who had two spells with his home town club, while the talented winger also played for UCD in the Premier Division.

His most recent League of Ireland club was Treaty United but he departed the Limerick club at the end of the 2023 season. The 21-year-old made 11 appearances and scored two goals for Treaty United last season.

In welcoming Lennon to Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford FC described him as "a quality winger", and a player who is "well established at this level with almost 100 appearances with UCD, Athlone and Treaty United".

From the Kiltoom area, Adam is a son of former Athlone Town manager Dermot Lennon, who also filled the role of director of football with the club.

Lennon made his debut for Wexford as a substitute in last Friday night's 3-1 defeat to Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Wexford currently lie sixth in the SSE Airtricity Men's First Division table and their next league fixture is away to UCD tomorrow night (Friday). UCD are in third place at the moment, three points behind second-placed Athlone Town, who host Kerry FC on Friday night.
