Walsh and O'Rourke find out who and when they'll be boxing at Olympics

Midlands Olympians Gráinne Walsh, from Offaly, and Aoife O'Rourke, from Roscommon, learned who they'll be coming up against at the Games in Paris when the draw for the boxing was held earlier this evening (Thursday).

Unlike the other female Irish boxers, Walsh did not receive a bye into the last 16. As a result, she will face Hungary's Anna Luca Hamori at the round of 32 stage this weekend.

The Tullamore woman's bout is scheduled for approximately 4.20pm, Irish time, on Sunday.

Roscommon's Aoife O'Rourke will be relatively happy with the draw, as she will come up against a familiar opponent, Poland's Elisabeta Wojcik, in their round of 16 bout.

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) pointed out that O'Rourke and Wojcik have met four times previously, with the Castlerea woman victorious on each of the four occasions.

Their fifth meeting, in Paris, is set for next Wednesday evening, July 31, shortly before 9pm Irish time.
