The Kilbeggan Races on Friday, July 12, delivered an unforgettable evening of thrilling equestrian action, highlighted by the feature event, the Kilmurray's Homevalue Hardware Midland National.

The crowd was treated to a remarkable spectacle as Ida's Boy, a long shot at 40/1, clinched victory in the prestigious race.

There was a typically jovial atmosphere at the Kilbeggan Racecourse as punters and racing enthusiasts gathered in anticipation.

The Midlands National, known for its challenging course and competitive field, did not disappoint.

Ida's Boy, expertly ridden by jockey Conor Stone-Walsh, showcased incredible stamina and determination, navigating the course with precision and outpacing the competition in the final stretch.

It was towards the rear for long parts and in midfield at three out, but pushed along and went second approaching last. Although pecking on landing the final fence, it was ridden to lead and ran on well run-in. The favourite, Amirite, ridden by Rachel Blackmore, finished second at odds of 3/1.

The victory of Ida's Boy was a stunning upset, sending waves of excitement through the crowd and delivering a substantial return for those who backed the underdog. The triumph underscored the unpredictable and thrilling nature of horse racing, where underdogs can emerge victorious against all odds.

Overall, the Kilbeggan Races provided an exceptional evening of entertainment and plenty of drama.
