American football action coming to Athlone this month

American football is coming to Athlone with the 2024 National Championship deciders taking place at Dubarry Park, home of Buccaneers Rugby Football Club, on Saturday, July 27.

Come along and experience American football at its finest in Ireland with the Harp Bowl and Shamrock Bowl finals taking place on the same afternoon. The Premier and Division One champions will be crowned after what are likely to be intense and hard-fought games.

A full day’s action is guaranteed with the Harp Bowl final, Craigavon Cowboys v West Dublin Rhinos, for Division One honours kicking off at 1pm. The Premier clash for the Shamrock Bowl, Dublin Rebels v UCD, follows at 5.30pm.

Craigavon Cowboys overcame Wexford Eagles and West Dublin Rhinos defeated Louth Mavericks to qualify for the Harp Bowl final. Ten times national champions Dublin Rebels proved too strong for fellow metropolitans South Dublin Panthers in their Shamrock Bowl semi-final and they will be joined in the decider by UCD, who outscored Belfast Trojans.

The finals are being sponsored by Jacksonville Jaguars who have just agreed a five-year contract extension to their quarterback Trevor Lawrence for the eye-watering sum of of $275m!
