Mullingar bus service still on course for 2025

A new town bus service for Mullingar is still on course to be introduced next year.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed to Deputy Robert Troy that plans for a Mullingar town bus service are progressing and it is hoped to receive funding for its implementation through the 2025 allocation.

In a response from the chief executive of the NTA, Deputy Troy has been informed that discussions around funding for the project are currently ongoing with the Department of Transport.

“The town bus service is absolutely crucial for Mullingar’s continued development and an essential service for those living on the outskirts of town. It is imperative that the necessary funding is now put in place as soon as possible and that the plan is progressed in the interim,” Deputy Troy said.

The planned bus service will incorporate two routes. Route 1 takes in stops between the Ballymahon Road and Lakepoint Retail Park on the Delvin Road, while Route 2 commences at Lough Sheever and ends on the Ballinderry Road. The service will be operated by Longford/Westmeath/Roscommon Local Link.

Deputy Troy added: “Over the coming months I will continue to pursue with the Minister for Transport to ensure this project receives the necessary support in 2025.”
