1,617 homes, businesses and farms in the rural surrounds of Moate, Ballymore, and Moyvoughley can now connect to the “life changing network” of fibre broadband from National Broadband Ireland.

This figures adds to the 3,127 connection made to the network in Westmeath so far.

Additionally, there are 8,737 premises in rural areas of Westmeath which can qualify for the high-speed connection today.

National Broadband Ireland are the company delivering the high-speed 'Fibre-to-the-Home' network on behalf of the Government, operating under the National Broadband Plan.

Residents of these areas are being urged by NBI to check online to see if their area is able to connect to the network, by searching their eircode here.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer of National Broadband Ireland, said: “We are delighted to announce that over 1,600 Westmeath premises near Moate can now order high-speed broadband services through the NBI network.”

“This will enable those who connect to experience the life-changing benefits of high-speed broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second.”

12,000 premises in Westmeath are included in the State’s Intervention Area, with Westmeath set to receive €46M of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.

Network build works are continuing across Westmeath for almost 1,500 premises near Tyrrellspass, and almost 1,000 premises near Ballymahon, with 450 premises near Hill of Down are due to be connected in the coming months.

“There are over 8,700 homes, businesses and farms ready to connect in rural areas in Co Westmeath. This includes over 3,200 near Mullingar, almost 1,100 premises near Lismacaffrey, over 1,700 near Delvin, and almost 1,100 near Athlone,” Hendrick said.

NBI will make the network available to all Retail Service Providers (RSPs) in the Intervention Area.

72 RSPs have signed up to sell services on the NBI network, with 68 certified as ready to start providing connections, with the full list of broadband providers currently licensed to sell on the network available here.

Residents can sign up for email notifications to be notified about their status during the network rollout.
