Former Corner House Bistro premises in Athlone up for auction

by Emily Sheehan

The premises of former Athlone restaurant 'The Corner House Bistro' is on sale, via an online auction on July 25.

The property, situated on Mardyke Street, is in the centre of town, and will be auctioned at a guiding price of €240,000.

Listed as a mixed-use commercial property, the property is summarised as a ground and first floor former café, and a one bedroom apartment.

The total floor area extends to approximately 2,119 sq. ft.

The auction is taking place on the bidding website Bidx1

The building previously housed the Corner House Bistro. Its closure in January was met with great disappointment locally, and saw the end of 12 years of business and the loss of 20 jobs.

In a post on Facebook, the Bistro's owners Linda and Joe Connolly announced the closure and cited the “constant rising costs across all areas of the business,” as their core reason for closing,

“We thank you for all of the memories and laughs down through the twelve years that we have traded in Dublingate St. and hopefully we will see brighter days ahead but today's a very sad day in our lives and in the lives of our staff, many many thanks.”

The premises has been vacant for the past six months.
