Moate gastro pub to reopen under new ownership

A Moate gastro pub which closed last month will reopen in early August under new ownership. The Cellar Bistro has announced it will open at The Gap House in Moate early next month.

Moran's Gastro Pub which formerly operated in The Gap House pub premises on Church Street closed its doors on June 9 citing rising costs which made the continuation of the business "unsustainable." Moate native Kieran O'Shaughnessy and his wife Alex opened the Moran's Gastro Pub business in June 2023.

The Cellar Bistro already operates a sister restaurant at Strand Street, Athlone, previously known as Hatter's Lane. Owner Peter Scully also owns Gertie Brownes Bar & Bistro and Peadar's Bar, Moate.

The new eatery in Moate will be offering a mixture of bar food from Gertie Brownes Bar and The Cellar Bistro in Athlone with an early bird and Sunday lunch menu.
