Four up for run challenge in aid of South Westmeath Hospice

Four members of triathlon clubs are in the middle of a “4x4x48 Challenge”

They are Gary Loughrey, Ambrose Duggan, David Jordan and Jamie Rosney and they aim to complete four miles every four hours for 48 hours, to finish at 12 noon on Saturday, July 6. The event got underway at 4pm on Thursday.

The total is 48 miles – well into ultra-marathon territory – but the difference with the 4x4x48 challenge is that the participants get a break after each four-mile lap.

The athletes, who are serving gardaí in the midlands, are raising funds for the South Westmeath Hospice in Athlone.

The South Westmeath Hospice Foundation was established in 1994 to provide compassionate palliative care and respite to patients, families, and staff at St Vincent’s Hospital in Athlone.

The Home Care team also supports patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families at home in Athlone, Moate, Glasson, Castledaly, Tang, Ballymore, Ballinahown, Mount Temple, Monksland, South Roscommon, and the surrounding areas.
