Frankie Keena becomes Mayor of Athlone for fourth time

Cllr Frankie Keena has been elected as the Mayor of Athlone-Moate Municipal District, for the fourth time in his political career.

The Fianna Fáil representative was elected at the council's AGM today at the Athlone Civic Centre.

It is Keena's 28th year in Westmeath County Council. He thanked his constituents, fellow councillors, and his family for their support.

"My intention is to work closely with everyone for the people of Athlone," Cllr Keena said.

He was congratulated by the other eight members of Athlone-Moate Municipal District.

Ballymore based Cllr Vinny McCormack was then elected as the Deputy Mayor, having been proposed by fellow Fianna Fáil colleague Cllr Aengus O'Rourke.

McCormack, a former mayor of Athlone himself, said that he is "ready and willing to support" Keena and the council.
