Nikodina Mikac created a wind turbine5th class students from St Mary's NS in Athlone recently participated in a STEAM initiative 'Engineering in a Box'.
The programme allowed the students to explore the world of engineering supported by Alexion volunteers who gave up their time to deliver the modules to the students.
The aim of this program is to inspire the next generation of engineers.
Topics covered included - Infrastructure, Food & Environment, Transportation, Simple Machines, Electronics and Communications.
"The children really enjoyed the practical experience of designing their own creations each week. It exposed the children to the world of engineering and hopefully there will be some future engineers as a result of this fantastic and worthwhile experience," said teacher Laura Skehill.
Students visited Alexion in Monksland last week to showcase their creations and to receive certificates at the end of the programme.
