New cafe set to open in Athlone

A new cafe is set to open its doors in Athlone in the coming weeks in the premises previously occupied by the Coffee Haven.

Coffee Haven, which has been operated by Nino, Giovanna and the Magliocco family at a premises in Inish Carrig, Golden Island for the past 14 years, will close its doors for the final time on Sunday next, June 30, with the grand opening of a new cafe at the same location expected to take place within a matter of weeks.

The new cafe will be known as Spanners Cafe and, in a social media post, the team behind the venture have promised to bring the “same cosy atmosphere and high-quality offerings” along with “some new treats and surprises” to the existing customer base of the Coffee Haven.

Confirming that they were “proud customers” of Coffee Haven over many years, the owners of Spanners Cafe said it is “a privilege” to have to opportunity to fill the void being left by the departure of the long-established cafe and to “continue the legacy of excellent coffee and food” in Athlone.

The new owners thanked Nino, Giovanna and the entire Magliocco family for all their “wonderful years of service and dedication” and said their impact on the community “has been profound.” They expressed their grattitude for the “foundations” built by the family in Athlone and finished their post with “here's to new beginnings and continuing to make Athlone a haven for coffee and food lovers.”
