Teenager arrested in connection with Cork alleged assault

A teenager has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault in Co Cork earlier this month.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the alleged incident on June 6th in the Island Wood area on the outskirts of Newmarket.

In a statement on Saturday morning, gardaí confirmed the teenage boy was arrested and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1983 at a Garda station in West Cork.

Officers in Mallow are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the alleged incident, particularly road users who were travelling in the Island Wood area between 4pm and 10pm on June 6th who may have camera/dash-cam footage.

"Any person who was walking, cycling, running or visiting the Island Wood walking trails that evening and who may have noticed any unusual activity is asked to contact investigating gardaí," the Garda statement added.
