Athlone Town's home game on Friday off due to international call-ups

The Athlone Town men's team's next fixture, which was due to be at home to Wexford this Friday (June 7), has been postponed due to international call-ups.

The postponement was announced by the league at noon today.

"We will issue further information on a new date when confirmed with all stakeholders," read the statement.

The players called up for international duty were not listed in the announcement, but Athlone defender German Fuentes Rodriguez has regularly been called up to represent his native El Salvador, who are facing Puerto Rico in a CONCACAF World Cup qualification fixture on Friday.

Athlone Town are currently on a very good run of form, with the team unbeaten since April 5 and sitting in third place in the table, level on points with second-placed UCD.

Last night (Monday) Athlone made the trip to Donegal to face Finn Harps in a game which finished 1-1.
