Man in serious condition after overnight Athlone incident

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after an incident in Athlone overnight, which resulted in the centre of the town being cordoned off from traffic this morning.

Gardaí in Athlone responded to an incident on Church Street, Athlone in the at approximately 3am.

Gardai said, a man, aged in his 50s taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore and remains in a serious condition.

Enquiries are ongoing, but it's understood the man was not the victim of an assault of any nature.
