St Mary's NS in Athlone secures second Active Flag
St Mary’s Primary School welcomed Senator Lisa Chambers and local TD Robert Troy to the school yesterday (Thursday) to raise the school's second Active Flag.
The aim of the Active Flag initiative is for schools to be more active more often, while promoting health and well-being within the school community.
During the ceremony, the student mayor and other pupils of the active school committee read speeches and recited a poem for the special guests.
Senator Chambers is currently the Leader of Seanad Éireann and is a Fianna Fáil candidate for the upcoming European Elections.
She spoke to the pupils about the Active Schools initiative, the importance of being active, 6th Class playground leaders helping Junior classes, active baskets, and much more.
There was great excitement and cheer as Senators Chambers raised the active flag. The whole school completed an active dance to finish off the ceremony.
The staff and pupils of St Mary’s Primary School wish to sincerely thank and acknowledge Senator Lisa Chambers and Deputy Troy for attending the ceremony and making the event so special and memorable for the pupils and staff of the school.
