Frankie Keena (Fianna Fáil), Athlone
We sent a questionnaire to all 11 candidates running in the Athlone Electoral Area in the forthcoming Westmeath County Council election. The responses were published in print in the current edition of the Westmeath Independent.
NAME: Frankie Keena
ADDRESS: The Lady's Walk, Moydrum, Athlone.
PARTY: Fianna Fáil
SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST:
Voluntary work with people with disabilities. Promoting job creation, tourism and heritage. Reduction of crime, anti-social behaviour, and drug dealing. Housing provision. Supporting our youth and sports clubs. Working on environmental issues through my Junior Mayor initiative in schools. Continuing to make our streets and footpaths accessible for all.
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING IN THIS ELECTION?
To continue to represent the public on a broad range of social, recreational, medical and community issues, eg. provision of amenities, housing, roll-out of a variety of festivals, lobbying for more resources to address crime and drug-related issues, and more medical facilities. To further increase the necessary infrastructure provision to make Athlone more attractive for new industries. To support local businesses and address commercial vacancies. To support local educational facilities for the future development of the town. To continue to support our Defence Forces and lobby for the Army headquarters to be located in Custume Barracks.
WHAT ARE THE TWO BIGGEST ISSUES IN YOUR AREA?
The prevalence of drug dealers and anti-social behaviour. And the shortage of appropriate housing for all.
WHO DO YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?
I meet many people with exceptionally difficult challenges in life. I am blown away by their determination to live life with smiles on their faces and inspiringly positive attitudes.
