The band, of all living things.

Two local music acts set to perform at Athlone venue

A Dublin-based band with local roots and a singer-songwriter from Mount Temple will take to the stage in The Venue, Athlone, this weekend.

The four-piece band, of all living things, composed of Athlone's Cian McDaid along with Cam Teehan, Danilo Ward and Eunice Saraiva, will perform in The Venue this Friday, May 31 at 8.30pm with support from Mount Temple's Ellen O'Meara.

of all living things are currently undertaking an Irish tour to launch their new EP Cold Plunge. Inspired by the sounds of the 90s, nostalgia and memories of youth, their music and sound reflect these themes.

The EP was largely written over a winter when the band would gather in a dark rehearsal room after endless days of work. The band said that the mood was often low, and noticed how they had a growing penchant towards writing slower and softer music.

“Our first EP, 'On Familiar Ground', was written in the dregs of Covid while we were still in college. For this EP we‘re now in our late 20s, and have become acquainted with the unforgiving nature of the working world. The themes of the EP, as well as the title itself, refer to these environmental changes we’ve gone through as a band over the past couple of years. It has an effect on our relationship with one another, and the music we write, and this can be heard on our latest offering, Cold Plunge.”

Folk-indie singer Ellen O'Meara recently decided to take the plunge and move to London to pursue a career in music.

Ellen takes inspiration from the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Phoebe Bridgers, John Waite and The National. She originally started posting videos of herself performing her own music on Instagram before deciding to migrate to Tik-Tok as the app is more anonymous and suitable for sharing music content.

The Tik-Tok in question sees Ellen performing her own rewrite of 'Complex,' a song by Katie Gregson-MacLeod. The video has received almost 700,000 views and over 100,000 likes to date.

Tickets cost €10 for the event and can be purchased from Eventbrite.
