Protest against war in Gaza to take place in Athlone

The Athlone Palestinian Solidarity Group has announced that there will be a 'bridge vigil' protest on Athlone's new pedestrian bridge this Friday, May 31, at 8pm.

This protest is part of a nationwide initiative called Droichid 32, being organised in every county in Ireland.

So far, over 80 bridge vigils have been confirmed to take place on Friday evening.

These vigils will see Palestinian flags being flown over bridges in various towns and cities across Ireland, “to express solidarity with the people of Palestine.”

Local Palestinian Solidarity activist Mickey Moran said that this latest protest “comes off the back of the horrendous scenes witnessed in Rafah over the last few days.”

“The whole world can now see the full scale brutality of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza. We ask all Athlone people to join us in our nationwide demand for a ceasefire. The killing must stop.”

The Athlone Palestinian Solidarity Group have repeatedly stated their aim, which is to “demand a ceasefire and an end to the horrific war on the children of Palestine”.
