Leaving Cert prize giving at Coláiste Chiaráin
The Leaving Certificate Prize Giving ceremony is always a significant event in the school calendar at Coláiste Chiaráin, as it acknowledges the achievements of the students in various ways as demonstrated over their time in the school. The awards event scheduled to follow the Graduation mass, was attended by proud parents and emotional staff and students. This year's event, held on Thursday, May 16 in the school gymnasium, was no different in the sense that it was the occasion for much celebration but also drew many a tear!. The high point of the ceremony was the awarding of the gold medal and trophy to the Overall Student of the Year 2024.
This year's winner was Aine Gilhooly, who was selected from a trio of shortlisted candidates, Rachel Dunning and Sarah Gannon. The Spirit of the Year award was presented to Stephen Joyce in recognition of his all-round good character, sense of humour and relationship with students and staff alike. The Sport-star of the Year Award was presented to Aine Gilhooly for her commitment to activity-based competitions in the school. Aine has excelled particularly in the Athletics arena. The LCA Student of Year 2024 was awarded to Siobhan Bertles for her commitment and work ethic in the Leaving Cert. Applied programme. There were also a number of subject awards.
