Managing Director of Athlone company wins tech honour
The Managing Director of Athlone-based digital engineering company, GlobalLogic Ireland, has been named as Person of the Year at the Tech Excellence Awards 2024.
Carmel Owens was recognised for her commitment to the growth and success of GlobalLogic’s business in Ireland, and was also commended for her focus on employee empowerment, diversity and inclusion.
She was presented with her award at a gala black tie ceremony at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire. The prestigious awards programme highlights the contributions and achievements of individuals and organisations in the Irish technology sector.
Carmel Owens was recognised for her commitment to the growth and success of the business – initially as Sidero and now GlobalLogic Ireland – since she joined in 2020. In the years that followed, Carmel built the Athlone-based business to become a leader in software, cloud, and digital transformation. As a result of her leadership, GlobalLogic last year acquired Sidero, with the company announcing the merger completion in 2024. Sidero is now operating as GlobalLogic Ireland.
As well as being honoured for her commitment to the growth and success of GlobalLogic Ireland, the Managing Director was also commended for her dedication to to addressing the gender imbalance in the technology sector and narrowing the skills gap in the industry.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Carmel Owens said “I am delighted to be named Person of the Year after what’s been a busy and exhilarating year at GlobalLogic. It’s an exciting time in the growth of the company; the recent acquisition expands GlobalLogic’s European footprint and positions the company as a leader in Ireland’s tech market. I look forward to further success as we continue on our upward trajectory.”
