Local man robbed at gunpoint in New York
Liam Egan from South Roscommon along with his friend Evan Glynn were robbed at gunpoint in Buffalo, New York on Sunday, May 19.
They had been in America for less than a week after moving there to attend Canisius University and work at the Banshee Irish Pub.
Liam and Evan appeared on WIVB News 4, the local news station in Buffalo, and Liam said that they were ordering an Uber when a man came up to them, turned around with a gun and held it to their heads.
The Roscommon man added: “When we were looking at the footage, he clearly wasn't following us. He saw us an easy target. Just sitting ducks.”
The ordeal was caught on surveillance video taken outside the Banshee Irish Pub at around 4:45am in the morning. Liam and Evan didn't have any cash on them but the robber managed to steal one of their iPhones.
Co-owner of the Banshee Irish Pub, Conor Hawkins, said that was glad that the two men weren't hurt but was worried that this could happen somewhere else in downtown Buffalo.
“Downtown Buffalo has been getting some bad apples for the past three or four years. I mean, business hasn't been good down here because people were scared away from getting harassed. There's too many panhandlers out on the street.”
Buffalo police is investigating the robbery along with similar incidents that occurred in and around the area at that time to see if they’re connected.
