Run or jog or walk the Mullingar Road League this May
The Mullingar Road League is a three-race 5km series on three Wednesdays in May – 8 May, 15 May and 22 May. The best two times will count for the league.
The off-road, traffic-free event takes place on the beautiful woodland trails of Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, along the shores of Lough Ennell.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Tanzanian Heavenly Homes, a Mullingar-based non-profit organisation who travel to Tanzania every year to help the forgotten elders and the poor.
John McCauley, found of Tanzanian Heavenly Homes, expressed his gratitude to Mullingar Harriers: "We are delighted that the Harriers thought of us for our work in Tanzania - the funds will go to help the poorest people to have beds, clothes, the basic items of life.
"We are very grateful to you all."
This year, the volunteers from the Mullingar area are travelling to Tanzania on June 30, and will spend 15 days working on the charity's projects there. This is the 14th year that a group has gone out.
There will be prizes for the top three men and women in the league, and lots of spot prizes too.
The Pat Finnerty Perpetual Trophy will be presented to the first man and first woman in the League.
Entry is €30 for three nights or two nights, and €20 for the final night only.
A specially commissioned medal will be presented to each registered participant.
The Mullingar Road League caters for runners and joggers of all ages and abilities.
It is a fun and social event and the emphasis is on participation; Mullingar Harriers encourage anyone interested in keeping fit and taking in the spectacular environs of Belvedere to join them.
Online entries open today Wednesday 3 April at myrunresults.com.
