Athlone's Darragh Murray signs two-year contract extension with Connacht

Connacht Rugby announced today (Thursday) that it had agreed a two-year contract extension with lock Darragh Murray, from Brideswell in Athlone.

The 22-year-old South Roscommon man began his rugby career as a youngster with Buccaneers RFC.

He is a past pupil of what is now Coláiste Chiaráin, Athlone, and his older brother Niall is also a Connacht player.

Darragh made his debut for the province in October 2022, and the 23/24 season represented a breakthrough campaign for him.

He has made 10 appearances this season, starting in eight of these, to bring his total appearances up to 19.

Darragh is a product of the Connacht Academy, coming through from Buccaneers, while he also captained the Connacht U18s to the Inter-pro title in 2018.

Commenting on the signing of his new two-year contract, Connacht head coach Pete Wilkins said: "Darragh has tons of potential and with a two-year contract extension we're confident he has all the tools to keep getting better.

"He's an astute set-piece operator and always give us huge energy around the field.

"I'm sure he'll continue to add to his skillset and be a really valuable asset for the club long into the future," he said.
