Big community entry at this year's Athlone parade

Athlone played host to the traditional St Patrick's Day parade today, Monday, and despite somewhat wet conditions, a large number of participants made this one of the biggest parades in recent years.

This year's parade was led by the army band, followed by Grand Marshal Gerry Johnson, Chairman, of Athlone Tidy Towns.

The parade began at Athlone Extrusions and travelled eastward to Burgess Park.

The reviewing stand was at St Peter's Square, and the parade took over 40 minutes to pass through.
