Athlone Community College presented with environmental award
Students from Athlone Community College were recently presented with their award for winning the secondary school category at the 2023 Arcadia Creative Climate Awards.
The competition, sponsored by Arcadia Retail Park and organised in conjunction with Cllr Frankie Keena's 'Junior Mayor' initiative, encourages students to come up with projects that focus on making a positive difference to the environment for all of us in the years ahead.
Among those in attendance for the award presentation ceremony at the school were Cllr Keena, former Student Council president Sam Brooks, last year's Junior Mayor and project leader Nikki Campbell, Junior Mayor Ryan Dolan, Student Council president Fionnan Mulvey, Arcadia Retail Park director Fiachra McLoughlin, and Athlone Community College principal Eileen Donohoe.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Frankie Keena said, ''It is fantastic to see the Junior Mayor Initiative continuing to grow with increasing numbers of schools participating.
"Congratulations to the great team at Athlone Community College who were the overall winners of the 2023 Arcadia Climate Awards competition in the Post Primary School category.
"Special thanks to Fiachra McLoughlin, from Arcadia Retail Park, for the generous sponsorship of these awards."
All of the participating schools are presently actively working on their 2024 Climate Awards project, with the entries set to go on public display in TUS in late April.
