Westside plan to be ready by March

The February meeting of Athlone Moate Municipal District of Westmeath County Council was told that a hard copy of the long-awaited regeneration plan for the west side of Athlone is expected to be available in early March.

The issue was raised by Cllr Aengus O'Rourke who asked when a physical copy of the Athlone Urban Framework Study, which includes proposals for Connaught Street and adjoining streets, would be made available.

He asked if the recently formed “Westside Traders Group” had contributed to the study by way of submissions or photographs.

The written response confirmed that the Connaught Street and Environs Community Group had contributed to the process. The plan is undergoing “final review and edits” and is due to be finalised "in early March".
