New social club set up in Moate
A new social club has been established at the Old Schoolhouse on Station Road, Moate also known as St Mary's Hall. 'The Tuesday Club' will be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 2.30pm to 4pm and the initiative is being led by Liz and Pamela Ross.
The Secretary of St Mary's Church, Pamela Ross said that they wanted to do something once a month on an afternoon. “It's just somewhere for people to go to have a chat and a cup of tea and it's kind of a social event.”
The first meeting of The Tuesday club takes place today and Shirley Ross who is the Practice Nurse in the medical centre in Moate gave a short talk on healthcare and the facilities there for older people.Pamela said that having a guest speaker gives the club a focus every month and that they have had a very positive reaction to the establishment of the social club so far.
“We've had lots of people saying they'd be interested in coming along and lots of shares on the Facebook page so we'd be hoping we'd have a fairly big crowd now.”She added that they used to hold a plant sale in the Old Schoolhouse for a number of years and that it always drew a large crowd. They also ran a tea room during the Moate Christmas market last year.
“We have a certain number of people in the community that would come to anything we have on and so we're hoping to catch those people and a few more." Pamela said that the club is not limited to any religion or age category.
The guest speaker for the next meeting of the club is yet to be confirmed.
