Garda warn public about 'bogey tradesmen'

Gardaí in Westmeath have issued an alert warning the public about 'bogey tradesmen' calling to houses recently and offering services.

People have been advised to "exercise caution and report any suspicious callers, never engage with callers to home, always employ a reliable and known tradesperson".

In a post on social media, gardaí said:

"Please look out for elderly neighbours and make them aware:

Be vigilant about "bogus callers" to homes

Don't open your door to anyone before you have confirmed who it is

Ring your local garda station immediately to report any of these callers to your home

Do not allow anyone you do not know access to your home"
