The difficulties and complications accessing the Shannon Callows Fodder Scheme is one of the subjects to be highlighted at a public meeting next week in Shannonbridge.

The Save Our Shannon Organisation (SOSO) is hosting an information evening in Lukers, Shannonbridge N37 XK75 on Monday next, January 15 at 7.30pm.

All farmers, businesses and residents that have been affected by flooding in the Shannon Callows from Athlone to Meelick/Lusmagh in the summer/autumn of 2023 are invited to attend.

Among the items to be discussed include the effects of summer flooding on farmers, businesses and residents in the Callows (rivers Shannon, Suck, Brosna, Little Brosna), the Shannon Callows Fodder Scheme and the complications/unfairness that are occurring in the implementation of this scheme by the Department of Agriculture.

All 11 TDs whose constituencies are in these flooded areas have been invited to attend. The group has have also invited Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue.

The group says there is huge unfairness in the implementation of this scheme, and much unrest among the affected communities.
