Over 100 people attend rally for Gaza in Athlone

Over 100 people gathered in Athlone Civic Square to call for an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza on Saturday last, December 16.

The event was co-organised by the Athlone Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, The Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council Ireland and the Irish Pakistan Community Network.

One of the organisers of the event, Sadia Butt said: “We are delighted with the turnout here today, particularly all the families and children who have come to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

She continued: “We are proud to see people from all backgrounds here today, standing together and demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza.”

The event was addressed by a number of community and political representatives including Éirígí, the Socialist Party, the Trade Union Movement, the Irish Pakistan Community Network and The Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council Ireland, Sinn Féin and the Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

The next Athlone Palestine Solidarity Campaign event will be the annual New Year's Eve vigil at 2.30pm on Sunday, December 31 at the Republican Monument in Custume Place. All are welcome to attend.
