New Community Multicultural Choir to make Moate debut
A new Community Multicultural Choir is to host its first ever performance tomorrow (Saturday).
The choir, supported by Music Generation Westmeath, is the brainchild of New Horizons, the frontline refugee support group in the region.
The choir, which features members from Ireland, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Ukraine, Nigeria, Algeria and Georgia, will perform a special event, Songs of Hope, in Tuar Ard Theatre, Moate, from 7pm on Saturday.
There will be pre-show Christmas tunes by Athlone Youth Orchestra from 6.40pm
The choir was established through conversations with members of the local Community Walk and Talk group as a way of developing links between communities.
The Songs of Hope event is a celebration of the rich tapestries of cultures and traditions that each person brings to the local community.
The event is designed to help strengthen the inclusive welcome for all who live in Moate.
