Young local girl chosen to turn on Athlone's Christmas lights

A young Glasson girl has been selected to turn on the Christmas Lights in Athlone.

Hannah Martin was chosen to do this all important job in recognition of her tireless work for and with the Irish Wheelchair Association in Athlone and in particular with the Sunshine Club.

Apart from he fundraising work on behalf of the club, Hannah is always on hand to support and assist the children whenever they meet or go on trips. She is much loved by the children in the Sunshine Club and as a token of their appreciation they nominated Hannah to turn on the lights in Athlone this year.

Cllr Aengus O'Rourke made the announcement and said he was pleased to confirm Santa Claus has agreed to come to Athlone and join the 'Switching On' event on Sunday, November 26, at 4pm in our Civic Square.

This event marks the official start to the festive season in Athlone.
