Timeline for construction of new footpath 'cannot be given', say council

The council has confirmed that the timeline for the construction of a footpath between Glasson and Tubberclair cannot be given.

The design has yet to be finalised due to several localised constraints. The Transportation Section is progressing the Active Travel Scheme design which includes the proposed footpath when time allows.

Cllr Louise Heavin raised the motion at a meeting of the Athlone-Moate Municipal District and received widespread support from her colleagues. She said she was raising the issue in the context of providing an accessible environment for all and believes this is an ideal opportunity to create “a safe route linking community facilities” in both areas.
