Man due in court in connection with Limerick fatal assault

A man charged in connection with an alleged fatal assault in Limerick is due to appear in court on Sunday.

Gerard Curtin (42) was found unresponsive outside a property on Sarsfield Avenue in Garryowen in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel. However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

His body was taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination was carried out. Gardaí confirmed the results of the examination would not be released due to operation reasons.

A man aged in his 40s was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been charged.

He is due to appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court on Sunday evening.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the incident.

Those who were in the Sarsfield Avenue area between 4am and 5.15am on Saturday, or anyone with CCTV/dash-cam footage are asked to contact Henry Street Garda station on 061-212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111, or any Garda station.
