'Quiet Halloween' for Athlone fire service despite widespread fireworks

Halloween 2023 was a quiet one at Athlone Fire Station, which received just two call-out to minor incidents last night (Tuesday).

Pat Hunt, Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Westmeath County Council, acknowledged that there was widespread use of fireworks across the Athlone area last night.

Despite this, however, the fire service was called out just twice.

The calls were to Blackberry Lane and to Curraghboy in South Roscommon, and Mr Hunt said neither incident was serious.
