Quid Game gives Westmeath clubs the chance to win €10,000

For the second time in less than twelve months, the Westmeath GAA community will assemble in the Mullingar Park Hotel tomorrow night (Sunday) where representatives of the county’s 47 clubs take on the Quid Game challenge with a prize of €10,000 on offer for the eventual winner.

Last November, over 600 patrons gathered in the hotel for a presentation banquet where the Tailteann Cup and McDonagh Cup champions were feted. On Sunday, October 29, that number is likely to be surpassed when the County Committee, in association with Club Iarmhí, stages Quid Game, the county’s major fundraising event for 2023.

Quid Game, which is expected to be a sell-out, is an action-packed game show modelled on the successful Netflix series based on a South Korean survival drama series.

The special guest and Quid Game presenter for the night, the great Conor Moore, the legendary man of many voices and personalities, will be adding to the night’s entertainment.

Survival will be the objective on Sunday evening as the winner of the final game of the six challenges involved will leave the Mullingar Park Hotel with the wonderful prize of €10,000 for his or her club.

Representatives of the county’s 47 clubs who have raised a minimum of €1,500 will compete for the massive cash price. Any money in excess of the minimum amount will be divided equally between club and county committee.

Others associated with the world of Westmeath GAA have also engaged in the fundraising as part of Quid Game. Representatives of Westmeath Scór, Westmeath LGFA, Westmeath Camogie, Club Iarmhí and Westmeath referees along with former hurling star John Shaw will take to the stage.

Tom Farrell and Billy Foley, two former chairpersons, have volunteered as well as the present incumbent Frank Mescall, the driving force behind the entire venture. Mick Stones, of MJS Building and Development, the company that has been so significant in its sponsorship of Westmeath’s development squads and underage competitions this year, is travelling from New York to compete. Representatives of TEG, O’Brien’s Renault and Writech will also be on stage. However, only a club representative is eligible to win the €10,000 cash prize.

David Smyth Catering has been a very generous main sponsor of Quid Game, while O’Neills, the North Midlands Credit Union, Monami Construction, Ganly’s (Athlone), Des Maguire Hair and Beauty Supplies, and National Broadband Ireland each sponsor one of the six on-stage games of the competition.

Participants have been promoting their fundraising campaigns over various social media platforms for the past six weeks or so and a variety of other events have been staged with the table quiz making a spectacular post-Covid comeback to the fundraising and entertainment scene.

A night of laughter, thrills, and excitement is promised and no doubt when the final contestants take the stage, the atmosphere will change as the tension builds and at the end of the evening some happy club treasurer will be looking at an account that has just been boosted by an injection of €10,000.
