Preparations 'underway' to reopen Clara Bog Visitor Centre
Preparations are underway to reopen Clara Bog Visitor Centre for the first time in over three and a half years.
In a post on Facebook, the centre said: "We are currently making preparations to re-open Clara Bog Visitor Centre. Keep an eye here and on our website for updates."
It reminded people that the boardwalks and trails on Clara Bog Nature Reserve are open and accessible at all times.
The statement comes almost three months after the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) said, in late July, that it was “looking forward to reopening” the Clara Bog visitor centre once new guide appointments had been finalised.
Minister of State Pippa Hackett, at the time, also said the opening would happen “in the coming weeks”.
The facility, located on the Ballycumber Road, has been closed since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
First opened in 2010, the award-winning visitor centre, which is co-located with Clara Library, offers a fascinating insight into what is one of the best remaining examples of a relatively intact raised bog in Western Europe.
