TUS Athlone campus lights up in green for mental health awareness

The campus of the TUS technological university in Athlone is being lit up in green each night this week to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

The World Health Organisation's World Mental Health Day was on Tuesday, October 10, and a number of events have been taking place on TUS campuses to commemorate it this week.

The green lighting was selected because of the 'green ribbon campaign' which aims to destigmatise and open up conversations about minding our mental health and wellbeing.

"Maintaining your mental health is just as important as maintaining your physical health," commented TUS President, Professor Vincent Cunnane.

Professor Cunnane said TUS had mental health support services in place in order to help its students look after their mental health

"Please avail of this Mental Health Week to familiarise yourself with those services and to learn more about what you can do to protect and enhance your mental health," he said.

In addition to the Athlone campus, the TUS campuses in Moylish and at Limerick School of Art and Design are also being illuminated in green this week.

Other related initiatives happening at TUS include 'being well' workshops and online guided mindfulness meditations for staff and students.

In addition, a 'TUS Social Activist' digital badge' programme is offering participants a chance to take part in a mix of online and in-person workshops on topics such as bystander intervention, active consent, understanding self-harm, and more.

The 'TUS Social Activist' digital badge can then be displayed on LinkedIn and uploaded to digital CVs.
