Curran departs role as Caulry football manager

Shane Curran has stepped down as manager of the Caulry senior football team after three years in charge at the Mount Temple club.

The former St Brigid's and Roscommon goalkeeper led Caulry to their first Westmeath senior championship semi-final since 1946 this year, where they lost out to Coralstown/Kinnegad.

Curran was assisted by coach Owen Mooney and selector Padraig Moran, with Caulry GAA posting "a massive thank you" to the trio online.

"A lot of hard work and commitment went into the roles and plenty of progress was made during their time in charge. Thank you and the best of luck going forward," said the club.

An All-Ireland club medal winner with St Brigid's of Kiltoom in 2013, Curran was a flamboyant figure during his playing career and there was no change in this regard when he turned to management.

Curran guided Pádraig Pearses to two Roscommon SFC finals during his time in charge of the Woodmount-based club. The Castlerea native is also well known locally as a former goalkeeper with Athlone Town.

Caulry will again compete in Section A of the Westmeath SFC next year, where they will be joined by county champions St Loman's Mullingar, Coralstown/Kinnegad, Tyrrellspass, Athlone and Tang.
