Fresh and breezy today with sunny spells and scattered showers

Weather update from Met Éireann

Mixed and breezy conditions with temperatures fairly close to the early October average over the next few days. Growing confidence for a brief warm spell around Friday/Saturday with temperatures potentially well above average in the high teens or low 20s.

That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann.

Fresh and breezy today, Tuesday, with sunny spells and scattered showers. The sunshine will turn hazy this afternoon and the showers will become more isolated this evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees, coolest in the northwest. Moderate to fresh westerly winds will ease and become southwest this evening, but winds will remain fresh and gusty near coasts.

Clear spells and isolated showers at first tonight. Cloud will thicken countrywide overnight with outbreaks of rain developing in the northwest. It'll stay largely dry elsewhere though, with just isolated showers. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees. Light to moderate southwest winds over land will be fresh to strong and gusty near coasts.

Another fairly fresh and breezy day tomorrow, Wednesday, with scattered showers for most, but more persistent rain, heavy at times, will affect northern and western parts of Ulster. There'll be a good deal of cloud overall, but a few bright or sunny intervals will occur too. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees, coolest in the north, in a moderate to fresh, and at times gusty, southwesterly wind, easing in the evening.

Wednesday night is promised mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle, mainly in the west and north. The persistent rain in north Ulster will clear northwards early in the night. Light to moderate south to southwest winds, fresher near coasts. Lows of 10 to 13 degrees.

Thursday is shaping up to be a rather damp or wet day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending from the Atlantic and becoming widespread during the morning and early afternoon. Some heavy falls are possible, mainly in western counties. Breezy too with southerly winds increasing moderate to fresh and gusty. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.

Continuing damp and breezy overnight on Thursday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle retreating to the west and north. Lows of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate southerly breezes, fresh and gusty near coasts.

Friday is looking mild, damp and mostly cloudy to begin with patchy rain and drizzle. Brightening up through the day with sunny spells developing in most parts by evening. Fairly breezy again, with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong and gusty near Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees.

Largely dry Friday night with clear spells with just patchy rain or drizzle in the west and north. Mild with temperatures no lower than 13 to 16 degrees.

Current indications suggest Saturday will be a dry and warm day with spells of sunshine, turning hazy through the afternoon. Very mild for the time of year highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees.

Further outlook: Transitioning to cooler or closer to average temperatures on Sunday with rain tracking eastwards over the country followed by showers.
