Council agrees to sell commercial site in Arcadia

Westmeath County County Council has agreed to sell a commercial site in Arcadia for €175,000.

The land, which spans 0.497 of an acre, is located beside Athlone Mixed National School and will be acquired by Castillo LP, RBK House, Athlone.

The issue came up at the September meeting of Westmeath County Council where members agreed to dispose of what Deputy CEO Barry Kehoe has been identified as a “non-strategic asset” in documents circulated beforehand. here is an “ongoing need” to address the funding gap in the Capital Programme through a combination of additional borrowing and disposal of non-strategic assets at an “appropriate time and appropriate manner,” according to Mr Kehoe.

“The land was marketed and is now subject to an offer that is equal to its advised market value of €175,000,” he added, recommending to members that they approve the Section 183 notice to enable the formal disposal of the land to take place to “Castillo LP, RBK House, Athlone”.

At the same meeting, the local authority also approved the renewal of a lease of 0.267 acre of land in Lissywollen to the National Learning Network at a nominal rent of €50 per annum for the next five years.

“Since the original lease of the plot, National Learning Network has transformed the plot into an impressive garden and maintained it to provide a visual amenity and a place of beneficial engagement and sanctuary for National Learning Network clients,” Chief Executive Pat Gallagher explained in documents circulated to councillors prior to the September meeting of the local authority.
