Athlone Credit Union sponsors defibrillator outside premises in town

Athlone Credit Union has sponsored a publicly accessible defibrillator at its premises in Irishtown/Golden Island.

The move has been welcomed by the Athlone Emergency Defibrillator Group, which said it was delighted and grateful to Athlone Credit Union for providing generous sponsorship to the group.

Cllr John Dolan, chair of the Athlone Emergency Defibrillator Group, and its secretary Chris Cahill, collected a cheque from the credit union on behalf of the group.

"I want to thank Athlone Credit Union for not only giving us this sponsorship, but for providing a publicly accessible, rescue-ready defibrillator at their premises," said Cllr Dolan.

"We are encouraging more businesses and housing estates in Athlone and the surrounding areas to provide and maintain publicly accessible defibs. If they do, our group will provide free instruction in CPR.

"I also want to thank David McGovern of DMG electrical for his help with this and other defib installations, which he installs free of charge for our group.

"If any business or estate is interested in installing a defibrillator which can be publicly accessible and registered with the National Ambulance Service please contact any member of our committee, and we would be delighted to have a chat about it," concluded Cllr Dolan.
