Clara dwelling completely destroyed by fire

The walls of a house in Clara were completely demolished on safety grounds following a blaze on Wednesday.

Clara Fire Services were alerted around 7.35pm on Wednesday night at, what a spokesperson described as an old building site in Kilbride, and a unit from the town and nearby Tullamore, along with a water tanker responded to the call at a vacant dwelling.

On arrival, a significant fire was underway at a dormer home, which has been empty and blocked up for some time. Fire services had to work externally to battle the flames because it was not safe to go into the building.

While there was initial concern that there might be someone in the premises, it later transpired that was not the case and no injuries were reported as a result.

The roof of the building and the floors collapsed during the effort by fire fighters to extinguish the fire, and the house was completely destroyed in the incident.

Both units spent several hours at the scene to quench the flames and secure the area.

A fire services spokesperson confirmed the remaining walls were completely demolished to make the site safe, as it was too dangerous to leave them standing. Both units and the water tanker from Tullamore only left the scene around 11.30pm.

Gardaí were in attendance at the Clara fire, and an investigation is understood to be underway.
