Knockout stages finalised in Westmeath club football scene

The knockout stages of the Westmeath intermediate and senior football championships have been finalised following a hectic weekend of action.

Caulry's draw with 2022 champions The Downs (1-9 apiece) was enough to secure the Mount Temple side's place in the quarter-finals, where they will meet neighbours Athlone. For their part, Eoin Jordan's Athlone charges overcame local rivals Garrycastle in Tubberclair on Saturday evening to secure their place in the knockout stages - see report here.

Although Tyrrellspass lost to Coralstown/Kinnegad (2-9 to 0-7) they still qualify from Section A in fourth place. The men in sky blue and navy will face Section B table toppers Tang in their quarter-final.

As was widely expected, St Loman's Mullingar secured direct passage to the semi-finals with victory over Killucan (3-9 to 1-9). And Coralstown/Kinnegad claimed the second semi-final spot with that aforementioned win over Tyrrellspass.

In the Westmeath IFC, meanwhile, Castledaly will meet Milltownpass in one of the two quarter-finals, with Rosemount taking on Section B winners St Malachy's in the other.

Rosemount narrowly defeated Castledaly last Friday night (0-12 to 1-7) but as things transpired, Ballymore's narrow defeat to Tubberclair would have seen the Roses go through in any case.

Section A table toppers Tubberclair and second placed Milltown are waiting in the semi-finals to see who they will meet. Tubberclair finished with eight points and Milltown were one of three teams to finish on six points, with their scoring difference in the games involving Castledaly and Rosemount putting them ahead.

The quarter-final line-up in the Junior 1 FC is also complete and is as follows: Kilbeggan Shamrocks v Athlone, St Joseph's v The Downs, Ballycomoyle v Mullingar Shamrocks and Bunbrosna v St Loman's Mullingar.

The quarter-finals in the senior, intermediate, junior 1 and junior 2 football championships will take place weekend (September 2/3).

The intermediate and senior quarter-finals will form two double headers next Saturday and Sunday, with TEG Cusack Park the venue in both cases. See upcoming fixtures below.
