Big day for Dysart as Pride of Places judges to visit
The South Roscommon village of Dysart is one of two Roscommon representatives in the Pride of Place competition
Judging for this year’s Pride of Place Competition will take place on Thursday, August 31.
The Dysart Community and Development Association in South Roscommon has been nominated by Roscommon County Council in category one of the competition for communities with a population up to 500 persons. Castlerea Town Team meanwhile have been nominated in category 7 of the competition in respect of the Community Wellbeing Initiative.
This year’s competition judges are John Briggs, former Chief Executive in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. He will be accompanied by Tim Caffrey, former Chief Executive with Longford County Council.
The Pride of Place judges will conduct a site visit to each community group during which time they will meet with community representatives. The visit will consist of a formal presentation by representatives of the local community highlighting their achievements and the reasons why they deserve a Pride of Place Award.
The judging panel will visit Dysart Community Centre from 10.30am to 1pm where they will meet representatives of the Local Community and Development Association. The judges will later travel to Castlerea where they will meet members of the Castlerea Town Team from 3.15pm to 5.45pm in Somers Park, Castlerea.
The Pride of Place awards is an annual competition organised by peacebuilding charity Co-operation Ireland and sponsored by Irish Public Bodies Insurance.
