Athlone scout campsite to host two days of activities for children from war-torn countries

Portlick Scout Campsite in Glasson, Athlone, is to host two days of activities later this week for displaced children from war-torn countries who are now living in county Westmeath.

The campsite's management board are providing the facilities and activities free of charge as a gesture of welcome to the displaced children living in our communities.

The activities will be taking place this Thursday and Friday, August 17 and 18, and it's hoped that approximately 150 children will be taking part each day.

"It is an opportunity for these children to enjoy Portlick Scout Campsite's unique range of activities and to have fun in the beautiful surroundings of Lough Ree and Portlick Bay," said the campsite's management.

Land-based and water activities are planned, including: Kayaking; Waterslide; Tag Archery; Crate Stacking; Zipline; Gladiator Challenge; Obstacle Course; Climbing Wall; and Field Sports

Westmeath Community Development, and New Horizon Refugee and Asylum Seeker Support, are supporting this event by co-ordinating the groups and providing transport to and from Portlick Scout Campsite.
