Former Athlone bank premises has asking price of €480,000

Athlone's former Ulster Bank branch building is on the market with a guide price in excess of €480,000, it's emerged.

While the for sale sign went up on the Mardyke Street premises in recent weeks, the Dublin-based Cushman and Wakefield auctioneers handling the sale of the property, along with other branches as part of the now closed network, had been unable to divulge details of the specifications of the sale or price until the detail went live on the www.ulsterbankportfolio.ie website.

The Athlone town centre property details were uploaded online in recent days, and it has revealed the former bank building which extends to more than 4,500 square feet of space over three levels will be sold by private treaty.

The former Ulster Bank outlet in Athlone, and its ATM services, closed on April 21 last. It was one of 63 branches as part of the Ulster Bank network countrywide which closed as part of the financial institution's exit from the Irish market. It has since been cleared of signage, ATM and operational equipment from its former use.

According to the property's sale brochure, 19 Mardyke Street is an “exceptional” three storey mid-terrace building which would suitable for a variety of different uses, subject to planning.

There is a waiting area, storage room and W/C on the lower ground floor, while the ground floor itself contains offices, the main retail/office space and a storage room. The first floor contains further office space, a kitchen and W/Cs.

In addition, there is a yard with covered parking for approximately three cars to the rear of the premises, with a separate access via Griffith Street.

A guide price of in excess of €480,000 is quoted in the property's brochure, with the auctioneers advising that the rates payable for 2023 are €9,118 per annum. However, they do say interested parties are advised to make their own enquiries on that front.

Anyone interested in the town centre building can register their interest in the property via www.ulsterbankportfolio.ie, enquire about a viewing and make an offer via the Offr platform or contact Cushman and Wakefield auctioneers.
