Additional verge trimming needed to address road safety

Roscommon County Council is being urged to carry out additional verge trimming amid concerns for the safety of road users due to overgrown verges at junctions.

The issue was raised by Cllr John Naughten at a meeting of Roscommon County Council on Monday.

“I am calling for additional verge trimmers to be provided due to conditions on local roads, which are quite overgrown at junctions on a number of bends,” explained Cllr Naughten.

“A lot of the verges are now significantly overgrown and are a hazard to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Additional trimming work is now urgently required to improve road safety.

“I am asking the council to hire in additional machines for the next few weeks to address this situation,” added the Drum-based Fine Gael representative.
